Leo Sprenger - 2004

About the luthier:

Leo Sprenger, based in Mittenwald, came from a family with a long and distinguished tradition of instrument making. Trained first as a cabinetmaker and later at the Mittenwald School of Violin Making, he combined his background in woodworking with generations of family expertise to build guitars, double basses, and other stringed instruments of the highest standard. Having also achieved the title of master luthier, Sprenger was active both as a builder and as a teacher, passing on his knowledge to younger generations. His guitars are valued for their precise construction, tonal refinement, and a strong sense of craftsmanship rooted in Mittenwald’s heritage of instrument making. His legacy continues through the instruments he created and the tradition he upheld until his passing in 2019.

About the guitar:

Built in 2004, this concert guitar features a spruce top paired with flamed maple for the back and sides, giving it both a striking visual presence and a distinctive tonal character. The sound is woody, round, and resonant, with excellent sustain that unfolds naturally across registers. Despite its light build, the guitar offers a full and balanced projection, breathing easily and responding readily to subtle nuances of touch. The neck profile provides high playing comfort, making it particularly enjoyable for chordal work and extended sessions. With its elegant French polish and Sloane tuners, the guitar combines aesthetic refinement with excellent functionality.

Condition:

The instrument is in excellent condition, with no cracks or structural issues. Its finish and overall construction have been very well preserved, and it comes in a softshell case.
