Antonio Raya Ferrer - 2026 "30 Aniversario" No. 253

About the luthier

Antonio Raya Ferrer was born in Granada in 1980 into one of the city’s most distinguished guitar making families. He began his training at the age of sixteen under the guidance of his father, Antonio Raya Pardo, an established figure in Spanish lutherie. On his mother’s side he descends from the Ferrer family. His grandfather Eduardo Ferrer and great grandfather Benito Ferrer were important representatives of the Spanish guitar tradition. Benito Ferrer is documented as the maker of Andrés Segovia’s first guitar.

Working from the family workshop, Antonio Raya Ferrer has developed a precise and consistent body of work. His instruments reflect a deep awareness of historical Spanish construction while revealing his own measured sense of proportion, clarity, and tonal control. Each guitar is built with meticulous attention to detail and acoustic balance.

About the guitar

This “30 Aniversario” model from 2026, numbered 253, was conceived as a celebration of the maker’s anniversary and stands out for its exceptional cleanliness of execution. Built in traditional construction with a spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides, and finished in French polish, the instrument presents a refined and highly coherent visual identity. The woods display remarkably uniform grain and elegant, well matched patterns, underlining the commemorative character of the model.

The design subtly combines elements associated with the Spanish tradition and French influences, resulting in a balanced and distinguished aesthetic. The overall appearance is restrained yet expressive, with precise craftsmanship visible in every detail.

Tonally, the trebles are particularly striking. They sing with clarity and elegance, offering colour and refinement without excessive brightness. The response is immediate and controlled, allowing for articulate phrasing and nuanced dynamics. The basses provide a stable and well defined foundation, supporting the upper voices without dominating them. The instrument feels cohesive across the entire register and offers a wide dynamic spectrum within a clearly structured tonal frame.
